Last night, the Archbishop of Ottawa Terrence Prendergast presided at Vespers to mark the end of the 40 Days for Life campaign of prayer, fasting and this year, a public proclamation of the whole Word of God in front of an abortion facility in the nation's capital.
About 400 people---maybe more---attended the service in St. Patrick's Basilica, then processed by candlelight to "Ground Zero" in front of the Morgentaler abortuary.
Some 26 parishes or groups participated in maintaining a prayer vigil at Ground Zero and in reading the Bible.
Last night, Fr. Adrian Sharp, a Catholic priest from Brisbane, Australia who is studying canon law at Saint Paul University read the last two chapters of Revelation. What a joy it was to hear the Word read from the beautiful King James Version.
Several young Dominicans took part in the procession to Ground Zero.
Archbishop Prendergast has been unfailingly kind and generous to our Anglican Catholic Church of Canada community, even knowing how small and poor we are. He's prayed in our tiny cathedral (during a Lenten Quiet Day several years ago in conjunction with another 40 Days for Life Campaign) We are very, very blessed to have him here in Ottawa. His solidarity with us in these trying times has been such a source of comfort.
